PDO MATRIX

PDO (Polydioxanone) threads are synthetic absorbable suture material used in cardiac and pediatric surgeries for over 50 years. The threads, when placed in areas of skin laxity in a matrix like pattern, provide a subtle instant lift followed by collagen induction via a “selective inflammatory response.” This leads to collagen and new blood vessels being laid down around the thread matrix for approximately 12 weeks, rejuvenating and tightening the area. The threads themselves dissolve over a 6-9-month period, leaving the collagen behind. The results last for up to 2 years. The procedure is performed under topical anesthesia or nerve blocks for sensitive areas can be performed at an additional cost. Please read the frequently asked questions for more information.

Frequently Asked Questions

PDO or Polydioxanone Threads are absorbable suture material that have been used in cardiac and pediatric surgeries for over 50 years. They are one of the safest materials to be implanted into the body.

Usually patients from age 25-65. The results of the procedure depend on how well your body makes collagen and as you grow older, your body’s ability to make collagen decreases. PDO threads are unsuitable for patients with bleeding disorders, some auto-immune diseases, uncontrolled diabetes. Dr. Goyle will go over your medical history thoroughly to make sure you are a good candidate for this procedure.

The treatment takes from 30 min to 90 min depending on the area. This does not include the 30-45 min of time for the topical anesthetic to kick in.

Results may last up to 2 years depending on the patient and the patient’s lifestyle.

PDO threads of various shapes and sizes come preloaded onto hypodermic needles or cannulas. The area to be treated is numbed by applying a topical anesthetic or nerve blocks. The threads are then inserted into the skin in a mesh like pattern. The PDO Threads trigger a “foreign body reaction” that causes special cells called Fibroblasts to get activated. These cells lay down collagen and elastin (the proteins responsible for keeping the skin youthful and firm) around the matrix. New blood vessels also form in that area. This process goes on for around 12 weeks. The PDO Threads are dissolved and removed by the body in 6-9 months, leaving the collagen matrix behind.

Yes! This is a great alternative to dermal fillers and Botox.

Some swelling and bruising can be expected in this procedure as the skin is punctured and penetrated multiple times with the threads. This usually resolves within a few days to weeks depending on the patient.

Usually 1 but if the wrinkles or skin damage need more correction, more treatments may be recommended. If you want to increase the fullness of your lips over time, more than 1 treatment about 6 weeks apart is recommended.

You may see some immediate subtle lifting, but results take at least 4-6 weeks. Collagen keeps building over 12 weeks so you may see continued improvement over a 12-week period.
